Nightfree's eyes opened a crack. She saw only darkness coming to greet her. "Night, my favorite time of the day." thought Nightfree. She slowly raised her self up, padded out of the den, then troted out of camp. She now was racing through the forest. The darkness flowed through her, giving her strength.

Krestelclaw sniffed the air. He could feel the diverse ShadowClan aromas all around him but he was only seeking for some in particular. His eyes closed and he tried to concentrate. He tried to trace the Warrior's Den. Was anyone awake? He felt someone moving here and then but apart from that, everyone was asleep. Elusive as a serpent, the tom glided to the den he was pursuing. He hid in the midnight shadows but his eyes kept going until he saw the silhouette that was still awake. He rolled his eyes. It was Nightfree. Well, she wasn't going to be much of an obstacle. He went to the fresh kill pile and dropped his recently caught prey then headed back into the woods. He passed through the Warriors' Den, not bothering to hide his presence. He grunted a salute at Nightfree then proceeded into the forest.

Nightfree looked around at the darkness, her only friend. She sensed a small figure in the tall grass: a mouse. She slinked to the patch of grass ever so quietly, and lept. The darkness lifted her high up, and she slamed on to the tiny body effortlessly. She raced back to camp, and dropped it into the fresh-kill pile.

Krestelclaw watched as the she-cat returned with a mouse on her jaws and dropped it on the fresh-kill pile. He had recently bought two mice the same size and felt it necessary to compete. He marched to Nightfree in his pernicious and yet sophisticated manner and curtly (if not, barely) dipped his head at her. 'You see the two mice over there?' he asked and inclined his muzzle in the direction of his prey. 'I caught them.' His eyes shifted deliberately from her and the pile and then the forest. He didn't wait for Nightfree to get the idea. 'Feel like starting a little hunting competition?'

"I prefer to hunt alone." replied Nightfree. She gave him a cold stare, that never softened. She darted like a eagle towards the forest. She sensed a new heart-beat, that she thought belonged to a rabbit. Again she leaped, the night lifting her up, and then releasing her on to the plump rabbit.

Krestelclaw's eyebrow lifted in surprise. He wasn't accustomed to be rejected, specially when he had challenged one. ShadowClanners were not ones to mess with: they would feel offended if their abilities were questioned and would instantly rush to prove they were worth. Nightfree, however, had declined Krestelclaw's dare and Krestelclaw was not about to grovel for her. He went to his little nest behind the Warrior's Den and laid down to rest.
ooc; er nightfree doesn't want to hunt with him so i guess i'll just leave...

Nightfree looked at Krestelclaw with a piercing stare. No one really liked her in Shadowclan: the darkness was her only friend. She loved the darkness so much: she couldn't live without it. She darted to the forrest without a second glance at Krestelclaw.
