Um... yes; this is a project I'm doing in Gifted class--a 20 min speech on it. Joy. I'm making a website and doing a partner debate (with my friend who is against govt. censorship).
I am supporting it and I need your opinions and thoughts.

Please don't walk away~ this may be boring and political but hey, you are saving me by just reading this. xD

Much like Australia right now, the US is planning to censor the internet (just pretend--it's NOT REAL). It's censoring through people--workers who get paid to censor sites/pages for the government. This extends to everyone in the US. The Program is also associated with the police department to track down illegal things in the internet--which are blocked.
But that's really not the point. It's just censoring bad stuff. xD

It is censoring

• child porn
  
• extreme hate speech (not "I dislike Bush" but strong racist content)
  
• terrorist information (ex: how-to atomic bomb)
  
• illegal things (homemade illegal drugs, illegal gambling, how-to hack, identity theft)
  

but why?

• you know it's baaaad for you D: so we're censoring it
  
• to cut off access to dangerous/inappropriate materials
  
• especially for kids
  

I disagree!

• Preserve Freedom of Speech (1st amendment)
  
• Granting the government power seems too powerful

A lot of countries, like China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Cuba and more are censoring too. Things that other countries censor:

• porn/terrorism/illegal activity
  
• anti-religion censorship (ex: islam)
  
• online dating
  
• gambling
  
• drugs
  
• western influences (whoa... but I like the western culture. xD)
  
• same gender love
  

but The Program will only censor what is listed above.

I think its a good idea because kids are not sheltered from things they should not see! My friend was trying to type in cat pictures, like a website for them and it ended up a pornography site. Which says that its so easy for that to happen to little children and that's like, not cool.

oh i totally agree moony! the internet is really supposed to be helpful. and who the heck wants to see pornography and hacking tips and blah blah junk? i say go government go, censor the internet!

What I Think...

Yes, I agree. I think the government should censor the internet. There are two kinds of people in the world. (major generalization...)

And Those People Are...

There are the normal folk, who just want to fufill their careers, and live happily and in peace.

And Then There's The...

Then, there are the creepers. The creepers are very into this kind of bad material that the government should censor. They create, watch, promote and make use of this material. (porn, how to hack, actual hacking, creating bombs etc.) The creepers role in society is to make the world a more agonizing place for the normal folks to live in.

So theres Creepers and Normal Folk, But Why Censor?

I think the government should censor the internet because this would stop a ton of junk that goes on. I mean, if the creepers can't access it, then bye bye bad stuff!

My Little Story Of Explanation...

Once, this one kid at my brothers school (who is a creeper if I do say so my self...) told him to go to this website, and gave him the URL. So, my brother got home, and typed it in the search bar. And what do you know? The little creeper boy from school had showed him the way to a site chock full of naked women doing things that should not be mentioned!

Now, this next part was kind of funny, but ironically, my mom just happened to walk in at just that moment. -snicker snicker- (I know, I'm so mean...^^) She was so angry. Later, she made him walk down to this boy's house with her, (he lives down the road from me) and have a talk with him. The little creeper boy said that he didn't know what he was talking about, and didn't get in trouble. Then his mom sai it was okay to my brother, and that he could look at that kind of stuff when he was older. (my mom wasn't happy witht hat last part- "He cannot look at that stuff! I don't care how old he is!!!" haha. )

Then On After...

Ever since, my mom has been super controlling over the computer and TV. (She actually blocked every channel on hte televison....XP) But, somehow, even with all the parent monitoring programs and blocking systems, junk can still get through. In fact, a hacker got into my computer and really screwed it up just last month! It was junked up with a buttload of viruses (144 to be exact) and when my mom went on her desktop, pornography shots were everywhere. (And I SWEAR she didn't put those there herself XD XD) So that proves that just parent censoring isn't enough.

In Conclusion...

We need the government with their high tech censoring to do the job. It will be for less hacks, viruses, porno, and all that other stuff. ^^

By the way: If your a creeper reading this, here are some tips (hah I know none of you are creepers, this is just for fun. and inspriational...)

Porn.
-- we don't care if you video tape it, photograph it, or do whatever else to record it, keep it to yourself! We don't wanna know or SEE what you do in your spare time...

Terrorist.
-- Why? Why torture the normal folks? We did nothing to you! If you are jealous of our successful lives, thats your own fault. it doesn't matter how much money you make in your life to make it succesful. It matters how much heart you put into it. And if you want to make a bomb, then figure it out yourself. Oh, now I bet you payed attention in Science class and tried to make good of yourself.

Oops... forgot to post this earlier but you guys were lots of help! I was so stressed about this project because it's so long! (The speech is due next next week ).
My real topic is school filter so I guess that's easier. xD
